'Those Who Vote For BJP Are Rakshas': Cong's Surjewala Stirs Massive Controversy; BJP Reacts

Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP Randeep Surjewala has sparked a huge political row with his controversial remarks against the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its supporters. While addressing a 'Jan Akrosh' rally in Haryana's Kaithal on August 13, 2023, Surjewala called the BJP and the JJP (Jannayak Janata Party) parties of "demons" and said that those who vote for and support the BJP are also "evil in nature". He also cursed them from the land of Mahabharata.

The video clip of Surjewala's comments went viral on social media, drawing strong reactions from the BJP leaders and supporters. Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said that the Congress party is going from losses into irrelevance and has taken a decision to remain in the opposition¹. BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra accused the Congress of abusing the position of PM, OBC, democratic institutions, and now the citizens. He also reminded Surjewala of his party's use of honorifics for terrorists like Afzal Guru and Osama bin Laden.

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar slammed Surjewala for using such indecent language and said that only a person born into a family of 'rakshas' tendency can think of such remarks. He said that his party will definitely take cognisance of the incident. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan also hit back at Surjewala and asked Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi if they consider the public 'rakshas'. He said that the BJP considers the public 'bhagwan' and worships them.

Surjewala's remarks have exposed the frustration and desperation of the Congress party, which has been losing ground in Haryana and other states. The party has been facing internal dissent and leadership crisis, while failing to pose a credible challenge to the BJP. Surjewala's attempt to polarize the voters on religious lines has backfired and has shown his disrespect for the democratic mandate of the people. The Congress leader should apologize for his offensive comments and refrain from using such divisive rhetoric in the future.
